Other People's Friends

I am a pretty friendly person myself. While in the process of being a friend, and making friends, I like to learn about them. I listen to the stories of their lives and the other people involved in them. Most of the time, I take careful note of the story characters. This is important because they sometimes play other roles and it is necessary to make good connections. This is also a natural thing because our friends shape our lives and our stories.

Throughout this process of sharing tales and stories, many times I feel as if the characters in these narratives are becoming a part of my life. I could tell details about them, that sometimes they don’t know about themselves. When they play a vital part in my friend’s life, it seems they also start to become a part of my current friendship.

So in essence, what happens is, I become a secondary friend to them. Through their actual friend. Its like knowing Sara’s best friend as well as I know Sara. Based on the fact that Sara and I talk and share on a regular basis.

You may think I’m joking about this, or that this is not possible, but here is proof: a couple of years ago, my roommate from college-Kris was living with her friend Nike. I talked to Kris on a regular basis during this time, and she was to be a bridesmaid in Nike’s wedding. When it appeared that one of the bridesmaids might drop out of the wedding, the option was discussed that I be the fill in, in a girl’s wedding whom I had never met. But that didn’t matter because we both knew Kris. Because of our communication with her and through her, became like friends. Close enough that I could have stood upon the stage for her and supported her with all of my heart. Even though we had never spoken a word directly to each other.

This phenomenon, has especially been the case recently, with all the new friends I’ve made. I could tell you who their closest friends are and a couple of random facts about them. I’m wondering if in the same, their friends could share things about me and feel as if they are my friend?

Jesus crackers flying everywhere

First I want to tell you, you will not burn in hell for laughing about this. I just wanted to share a humorous story that happens once during the solemn ceremony of taking communion, the Lord's Supper.

I remember it distinctly, I was in Chapel Choir at college, and we were taking communion that Sunday. Some elders of the church we going around and passing out the elements, including in the choir loft.

Things were going well, most students were just passing around the plates. One of the elder's was in too much of a hurry to get to her fried chicken lunch and while going to pass the bread sacraments to the choir (in the front of the church) she lost footing.

You say that's not humourous, oh but it was. Because next thing we knew, communion crackers had flown all over the front stage. The lady wasn't hurt. So the Choir started roaring with laughter. Some attempted to muffle there giggles but our very solemn ceremony had just been flung all over the front stage. I'm pretty sure I laughed so hard that I had tears in my eyes.

Then try to compose yourself after that! Especially when, for the next 15 minutes there was residual laughter from people who were reliving the scene in there head and just couldn't hold in the chuckle that snuck out.

Who says God isn't a God of humor?
